Join
Wild Thing Poetry Collective (WILD THING POETRY) for a range of workshops culminating in a reading to celebrate creativity, connecting us with the more-than-human and unleashing the wild and tender spirits we need to sustain us through the dark days. We will embrace Samhain with a fluid mix of workshops, sharing and soulful feedback led by Wild Thing Collective members.
Discovering your Inner Hag: The description 'hag' has long been used as an insult to denigrate and oppress women and our elders. In this workshop, Lisa Kelly will encourage participants to connect with their inner hag and put her on the pedestal she deservers. We will look at the origins of the Old English word Hægtesse and its first syllable meaning hedge. The hag is a hedge-sitter who traverses two worlds and crosses the borders between the village and the forest and the spirit world. Where will we travel and what knowledge will we discover and impart in our writing?
It's Not the End of the World: Finding the comedy in the environmental apocalypse. Led by David Floyd, we will explore how to find pockets of relief and humour as we are faced with climate change deniers, calls to 'Drill Baby Drill' and the comedians who call themselves leaders.
The Rose as a Vehicle for Grief: The rose has been used historically as a plant to soothe a broken heart and connect with during times of grief. In this workshop, led by Laura Rose, we will use meditation, journaling, essential oils and movement to connect with the spirit of this flower and explore how we can use the Rose as an ally for helping us to connect deeper to grief in our writing.
Recipe for a Spell: "Poetry is not a fancy way of giving you information; it's an incantation. It is actually a magic spell. It changes things; it changes you." Philip Pullman.
In this workshop led by Tara Brown, Katie Dunstan and Jess Grynfeld, we will write spells, gathering ingredients from our favourite witchy poems to write change into the world.
