Seeing and Doing is a multidisciplinary space that takes the idea of a writing group and makes it everything.
All types of artists and those who wouldn’t call themselves that, come along to Seeing and Doing: a fortnightly space to discuss and create! The group exists as a place where people can play with artistic inspiration in whichever way feels right.
Each session will work to a particular artistic stimulus, which will be listed before on patrickbenson.co.uk/seeinganddoing, although no prior preparation will be required. Each session will run as follows in three parts:
-
The first would be little games or prompts to get everyone thinking about response and description.
-
Next there would be a focus on a particular piece (or small group of pieces), and the group would discuss their responses to it, or feelings about it. A piece could mean a poem, a film, a work of art, etc. This would be a space that could exist as emotionally or as academically as people would require it to be.
-
The third part is all about creating something from the inspiration of the session. A drawing, a piece of writing, a painting, a model, whatever - you could be responding to a particular colour, an essence, an emotion, a phrase, the determined meaning, the look of something, an impression however big or small. Hopefully this will allow everyone in the session to take something new, some sort of inspiration into their artistic practice.
There are no restrictions on what sort of artist you are, we welcome poets, painters, sculptors, illustrators, textile artists, musicians, whatever feels right! There is also no restriction on ability or knowledge in order to join, if you are interested, you are welcome.
