Working with excerpts from Hélène Cixous’s fiction and Claude Cahun’s surrealist work, Lewis and de Muth will explore the challenges of translating experimental writing from gendered languages and facilitate participants’ own rendering of the texts into English.
Participants are welcome to bring their own choice of text to work on.
Susan de Muth is the translator of Claude Cahun’s Cancelled Confessions and Uranian Games and several other Surrealist and Dada texts.
Sophie Lewis is a prize-winning translator from French and Portuguese. Her new translation of Angst by Hélène Cixous will be published by Silver Press in March 2026.
