Timothy Adès translates mainly French, German and Spanish poems into English, tending to work with rhyme and metre. Tonight he will be reading from new books: translations from German poets Ricarda Huch, Ringelnatz the Rhymer and Morgenstern's Magic.
In earlier books he has translated Victor Hugo (for Hearing Eye, a long connection), Robert Desnos, Jean Cassou, Alfonso Reyes, and Alberto Arvelo Torrealba. And Shakespeare! He has four awards for translating poetry, runs a bookstall of translated poetry, and is on Facebook and YouTube.
Katherine Gallagher will be reading from Rencontres Encounters; . Katherine is a widely-acclaimed poet with eight books published as well as four chapbooks. Born in Australia, Gallagher has lived and worked in London since 1979. She has been an active force in the community, giving poetry readings, running workshops (for adults and children), judging poetry competitions, and participating in poetry festivals.
Her work has been widely reviewed. In addition, Gallagher has undertaken translations (from French) and her reviews of the work of other poets have been extensively published. Gallagher's own poetry has been translated into French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Romanian, and Serbo-Croat.
Marina Sánchez, Latinx poet, will be reading the French translations of Katherine's work.
